Compound Confusion; Help From an Editor in Understanding Common Compound Word Mistakes

Hi everyone!

When you self-edit be sure to look for words that are separated but should be combined into compound words. Microsoft Word will not always show you in blue and it definitely will not in red. Computers cannot do everything. As a rule of thumb always check the words you choose to hyphenate. Much of the time these hyphenated words should be either separated into two separate words or combined into one word. Seeing what is most popular on Google is a good way to do this. However, I can help too. Below I have a list of compound words that may surprise you, although I don't expect all of them to. Feel free to use this page for future reference.
