Shanina Conway is a super talented artist from Australia. What I love about her art is how much impact and drama it has with its intense shadows and haunting subject matter.
There is a narrative, storytelling quality to her work that lures you in and keeps you captivated in wonder. I thought she'd be the perfect artist to share with you this Halloween month to get you into the spirit! Of course, her work is just as beautiful year round.
Take a look at some of my favorites below!
La Catrina
Dark Side Sugar Skull
The Pumpkin Patch
Hey There Little Red Riding Hood
Dolly Broke
Pipe Dreams
And now for an exclusive interview with the artist:
Q. In your bio you are described as a "visual storyteller". What is the process of creating the idea for your artworks?
A. The process varies, it can start with a doodle, a sketch, a dream or a reaction to something I've seen or heard. The time between concept and completion varies and often the original concept gets blurred along the way, but that's another joy of creating, you rarely start with a set concept and find it in tact at completion.
Q. What is your favorite part about Halloween?
As an artist I love the freedom of creating scary and horror themed artwork without having to explain I'm not turning to the dark side or falling into a depressive state; it's just pure unadulterated fun.
